What can I find not find in Korea/ what should I bring with me.
Korea is getting more and more western items everyday. It is a matter of figuring out where they are. There is a great book store in Itaewon that you can buy books written in English www.whatthebook.com
I brought Reeces peanut butter cups and most of my spices with me. I have noticed that about half the spices I brought I can find here.
If you are female and are larger then a C cup, you must bring your own bras. If you wear plus sized clothes it is best to bring them as well. Most Koreans are very skinny and flat chested. I have found a great plus size store in Itaewon called Big Boss. I can usally find some pants and dresses there. But my options are very limited.
I brought my own roaster oven. Most Korean apartments do not have an oven. Usually you will be given a hot plate (That may or may not work well) or a gas range with one or two burners. Some apartments come with a microwave oven. Our school has a cafeteria. Most of the single people eat there two or three times a day.
Couples seem to buy appliances and cook in their apartments. My first year here I did not have my roaster oven so I bought a crock pot. It was the closest I could get to an oven cooked meal. It was great.
Most Korean grocery stores are like Super Walmarts. They have a story or two of household goods and the basement is a grocery store. Some popular supermarkets are Emart, Lotte Mart, and Home Plus. You can find most items you need there. There are also several Costcos. They are more expensive here than in the states but well worth it for some good American food. If you are single I would recommend going with a friend and splitting the larger items. We buy bacon, bread, cheese, and coffee there. We also enjoy the food court at Costco because they items are just like the ones in the states. I sometimes say that I go to Costco when I am homesick for America.
