Working in Korea - What about the food?

What about the food?

Koreans eat a very different diet than Westerners. Every meal usually includes kimchi and rice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have a regular sized dish of food and many, many side dishes. At most restaurants the side dishes have unlimited refills. Their diet consists of a lot of fish and tofu. They put meat in many meals but in smaller quantities than westerners do. They do have several delicious meat dishes. My favorite is Galbi. Which is BBQed meat. They bring it to you raw and you cook it yourself at your table. You get your food quicker and can cook it the way you want. It is always warm because you are the one cooking it.

In Korea it is rude to give a tip at a restaurant. Also all priced items at restaurants and stores have the tax included in the price. So if your Galbi is 10,000 won that is how much you will pay. There is no guess work when paying for items in Korea.  At certain “Western” or other foreign restaurants there is a “Value Added Tax” of 10%, which is NOT already included on the price, but you will see notices of this on the menus.
