Hello everyone,
Well we successfully moved from our apartment in Ansan to our new apartment in Paju. Praise the Lord!! The trip was rather short (45min) due to very little traffic, which was nice as it took 2 hours for the same trip when we arrived here from the U.S. We had one mover to drive us and help haul our stuff down the stairs. He's probably 50-60 years old and I think he's tougher than me! Not to mention about half my size! I was amazed at this man's ability to move stuff and not seem tired out!
Our apartment is nice. It is a one bedroom with a large living room with an attached kitchen. The storage is a little less than we would like, but better than we expected. So far we have unpacked a little over half of our things. I guess I should say Jennifer unpacked most of that. I had to make a return trip to Ansan and then back to Paju in order to get all of our stuff there, and while I was getting the rest of our stuff with the mover, Jennifer unpacked all the stuff we brought in our first trip. We are still adapting to our new home and working out the bugs. We have a few issues with the apartment at the moment, but have brought them up with the facilities director and they should (hopefully) be fixed soon.
Our apartment also came with a printed booklet containing all the instructions for our appliances and such in English!!! This is the first time I have even heard of a school doing this, and we are very happy that they have thought this out and taken care of it in advance! Usually we have to bring the Korean instructions to a Korean and ask them to tell us how to use things. The booklet even has bus info, approximate taxi fares to get to various places, and other cool/useful stuff. We are very impressed!
When we arrived we were greeted by the president of the school and then by a fellow foreign teacher (Shauna) who was our welcoming committee (committee of one?). She showed us a bit of the campus and took us out to dinner in town. After dinner, she took us to a local market so we could purchase food for today. Tonight, she is taking us to E-mart (think Walmart) to do some additional shopping for groceries and other things. As we left the restaurant, we noticed it had begun to snow, and it apparently didn't stop all night. This morning we had a good inch or two and it's still coming down softly.
We've met the head teachers and our individual program directors and will be observing classes with our groups today. I am part of the ABC group (not sure what that means) and Jenn is in the Science group. We hear she gets to make soap and robots. I am a little jealous!
The campus here is beautiful, especially with snow on it! I will take some pictures (if I can find my camera!) and send them or post them on Facebook later. Ok, I will probably have Jenn post them on her account, but that's about the same thing, right?
It is cold here, but we should get used to it. We are so thankful to God that it didn't snow until AFTER we moved. We really wanted to get moved before the snow fell.
We are also thankful that God allowed us to leave the other employer and come here!
We'll be learning more about what we're doing and what to expect in the next few days.
