"Jason, Michelle, Uncle Hoon, Lee, Jenn and Chris"
There was not turkey for us this Thanksgiving :( But we had fun anyway. Tonight we went to a duck BBQ restaurant to celebrate Thanksgiving with some American and Korean friends.
It was the biggest Korean restaurant that I have seen. It could easily seat 200 to 300 people. That is very big for Korea. They only serve duck there, so as soon as we sat down they served our food. Here in Korea, they bring you raw meat on a platter and you cook it yourself at the little grill in the middle of the table.
We noticed while we were eating our duck that there were wads of foil inside the BBQ pit. It was foil wrapped yams. They eventually came along and pulled them out for us. So after the duck and the yams we were served jooke. This is a Korean traditional porridge. I think it is really good but always needs a little salt. Well we were in luck this is the first Korean restaurant that I have been to that had salt on the table. It added so much quality to the duck, the yams and especially the jooke. It was very yummy.
After dinner, our very kind host took us back to his apartment and we had pumpkin pie. Yes, real pumpkin pie and even the nice canned whipping cream. It was a little piece of American Thanksgiving heaven. We even got left over pumpkin pie to take home, because all Thanksgiving food tastes better as leftovers the next day.
It was a good thanksgiving. Next year I am going to find someway to make a turkey, but the duck was a very fun experience.
