A Korean wedding

Well it has certainly gotten cold here. The temperature is down below freezing, even during the daytime, but what is worse is the wind! The wind here is strong and cuts through your clothing, chilling you to the bone. We manage alright with heavy coats, gloves, hats, etc.

We went to a wedding today. This was our second wedding in Korea and the first where no English was spoken during the service. In many ways it was similar to weddings in the U.S. The parents of the bride and groom both sat in special chairs just in front of the rest of the people attending, and toward the end of the service the bride and groom bowed very low to them (touch your face to the ground low). After the main ceremony was over there were three songs by friends and family who, were singing to the new family too. That was pretty neat. In the last song, the singers all went forward by twos and gave a rose to the bride and groom.

After the ceremony we got together with some of our friends and ate lunch in the cafeteria. In Korea, it is a tradition to serve a buffet style meal to your guests after the service. The food is always good, and we usually have good company to chat with too. It was a nice time.

Classes have been going pretty well, although my schedule got changed for the worse. I teach a few more classes now and have to come in a couple hours earlier than before, but I still leave at the same time as before. The extra classes are going pretty well though, and I am bonding with many of the kids I teach. A few problematic classes/students, but overall they’re good kids.
