Crock Pot

I was looking online and was inspired by Crockpot recipes. I asked Chris if we could purchase a Crockpot since we don't have an oven to cook in. Then we started talking about all the stuff we could make.

He even went with me to several stores. They are hard to find here. Finally I found one that was almost 10,000 won cheaper than the only other store that had them. They didn't have anymore and they were not planning on getting another shipment, so I asked if I could have the floor model and the salesclerk said yes. He even gave me a discount without me asking for it. So I got it for 12,000 won cheaper than at the other store.

On my way home from my purchase I picked up some vegetables and a whole chicken. The butcher cut it for me but they cut chickens very differently here.

So I made chicken and veggies on Tuesday. Then yesterday I decided to make some refried beans. I had tried making them a few weeks ago but they didn't come out very good. This time I soaked them over night. Then I cooked them in the Crockpot with some bacon, onion, garlic and salt. I also added all of the Chicken broth that I had saved from the chicken. I think the chicken broth really made a difference. Christopher loved them.

We had tortillas that Chris' mom had sent us and we fried some hamburger, and added lettuce and diced onions. Chris even had a hot sauce packet left over from a pizza he had ordered. My stomach is no longer used to such a heavy meal but it was worth the stomachache for the taste.

My next plan is to make lasagna. This is my favorite dish. I have not been able to make it here due to the lack of an oven. I have found some recipes online. We went to Costco and have purchased hamburger, cheese, and Prego Spaghetti sauce. I am really looking forward to this dish. We can't find Ricotta or Cottage cheese so I think I will add some extra sauce. It is going to be yummy.

Other items on my crockpot to try list are bread pudding, baked potatoes and BBQ ribs. If you have any ideas I would love to hear them.

I have not really enjoyed cooking in Korea due to all the the limitations. But now that I have my new toy I am really enjoying cooking again and looking forward to trying new items.

  1. Sounds kind of weird, but if you add chopped hard boiled eggs to the lasagna instead of cottage or ricotta cheese, it adds the texture that the cheeses do and you really can't taste the egg flavor. Or lasagna without the soft cheese isn't bad either.

You really can add whatever you want. I usually add an extra can or two of different kinds of beans. =) Her site has lots of crockpot recipes. =)
