No Butter, but Plenty of Spam!!!

This Sunday we went to a clothing swap. Basically a bunch of girls got together and decided to do it. It was interesting to watch them all dig through this pile of clothes they brought. I went because I am the map. Jenn went in the hope of getting some new clothes. It didn’t work out. I think the best example would be to say that one of the girls complained that she was “up to a size 8” and leave it at that. It was an interesting experience though. Oh, Jenn heard about it on Craig’s List and we didn’t know anyone else who was there, so that is why things worked out as they did too. The trip wasn’t wasted however, as Jenn got a blowdryer and I got a book. Her last blowdryer decided it liked to eat/melt her hair, which is obviously a problem;-)

In other news, Chuseok (pronounced Chew-sock) is coming. This is Korean Thanksgiving (or at least that is the closest translation that I have been given). From what I have gathered, all the Korean women spend three days cooking and preparing food for one GIGANTIC feast that they have on Chuseok proper. The big plus for us is that we get Thursday-Monday off, instead of the usual Saturday-Sunday. 3 extra days is nice, but we don’t have plans yet :-(

A funny thing about Chuseok, we got to sign up for the gift we were going to receive from the school. We had two choices: a spam and soybean oil package or a toothpaste and shampoo package. Now, while we really didn’t need TWO packages of shampoo and toothpaste, we tend to think that soybeans are toxic or close too it. We don’t really eat spam either. So, we got two gift packages of toothpaste and shampoo. We probably have enough toothpaste to last us for the next two years.

Another interesting thing is that butter has disappeared from the stores. Butter has never been here in huge quantities, but it’s been around just the same. We have looked for it everywhere!!! And it’s not to be found. We have no idea why either. But both corner markets are out, as is Costco and our grocery store. Correction, our grocery store DID actually have some yesterday night. It was about a quarter pound of butter, but it was being sold for the same price they sold a pound of it for a month ago!!!! $6 for a quarter pound!!!! We didn’t buy it.

Cute Kid Quote: "My favorite day is Tuesday, because we have science class. My mother's favorite day is Monday because she has hope."

This was written by one of my kindergarteners, she is 7. I edited the grammar, but that was it.
